Thinking of home, Tulia, Texas, when Prom was in the gym and the junior class did the decorations and dressed in ridiculous costumes to serve dinner. Remembering my beautiful sister, Ouida (red dress)and the fun. We dressed in the hoop formal and “flip” hair- styles. We ended the big night dragging Dip Street and maybe a sweet kiss at the front door. Best of times. Two formal affairs 1st Prom 1961 (I think)and then at the very end Sweetheart Banquet or sports banquet (maybe).

  1. Did you ever eat at Omer’s Highway Cafe???

  2. Yes, indeed! I did a hula solo as a junior at our Gilmer High School prom in 1963, complete with a cellophane “grass” skirt! No stretch limousines, tuxedos or fancy dinners out beforehand – just simple, old-fashioned fun!

  3. I loved watching the prom video and sent it to Emily– my friend from Tulsa. Such a time of elegance and innocence before the world changed in the late 60’s. And they don’t make fairy- tale dresses like that anymore. Your sister was beautiful! What a night to remember!

  4. Peggy thanks for sharing this! So many precious memories connected here! I was a server (sophomore) with Parker Doan. So many are already gone. We were truly blessed to grow up in Tulia when nobody locked doors!
