belly buttonThe question is: If Lent is More than Something in Your Belly Button, why do we continue to do penance? Penance can’t pay the bill.

Being good enough or beating yourself up is futile. Give it up. I love this section from Max Lucado:  index

Our executioner’s footsteps echo against stone walls. We don’t look up as he opens the door and begins to speak. We know what he’s going to say– “Time to pay for your sins.” But we hear something else. “You’re free to go. They took Jesus instead of you.” The light shines, the shackles are gone, and our crimes are pardoned. ~ From Max Lacado’s Grace

Lent is the season of penance and prayer before Easter.  Lent starts every year on Ash Wednesday and ends on Holy Saturday, the day before Easter Sunday. Ash Wednesday 2015 falls on February 18, 2015, and Holy Saturday 2015 falls on April 4, 2015.

The question is: If Lent is More than Something in Your Belly Button, why do we continue to do penance…Penance can’t pay the bill.

Celebrate Forgiveness. Stop looking at your own bell button and do something for someone else. (Well, do get the lint out.) Use Lent Fasting as a way to be thankful.  Give up Chocolate if you must, but do more. Use the money for chocolate to help someone.  Use the time it would take to eat the chocolate to study the truth about Lent.   This book called Grace will lead you to The Book of Grace–The Bible. Happy Lent hunting.
